Robb Elementary School Shooting
The United States of America has been in the headlines again due to another school shooting that occurred two weeks ago. This time the incident didn’t happen in a grocery store or a neighborhood but happened in an elementary school in Uvadale, Texas.
On the 24th of May, 2022, a shooting incident occurred at the Robb Elementary School, Texas, that took the lives of nineteen children and two teachers. It has been dubbed the worst school shooting incident since the shooting incident at Sandy Hook School in Connecticut in 2012.
Breakdown Of The Incident
Salvador Ramos, the gunman of the incident, left home with all the wrong intentions. Ramos’s first victim was his grandmother, who he shot in the face, but luckily the gunshot only resulted in a wound. Ramos drove his truck past the school barrier and barged into the school, where he opened fire and ended up massacring 19 nineteen students and two teachers, that unfortunately were in his way.
A breakdown of the incident covered by the Texas Tribune gives a detailed description of how the gunman had something malicious in mind when he first requested his sister to buy him a gun in September 2021. It was discovered that the gunman was in search of a firearm and had been inquiring about it on the famous social media platform, Instagram.
On the 14th of March, 2022, the gunman posted on Instagram with a caption saying “10 more days,” to which someone asked if he was going to shoot up a school. The gunman refused in his reply and asked this person not to ask such dumb questions.
On the 16th of May, 2022, the gunman turned 18, which is the legal age for buying guns in Texas, and bought two assault rifles and 375 rounds of ammunition, which is a lot, and eight days later, the school shooting took place.
What Can We Learn From This?
Such incidents just go on to show how the laws and regulations regarding guns need to be tightened to reduce such similar incidents. Another thing that we can learn from this is that storing guns in a safe location is very important.
